Mykhailo Pyrtko: Investments in Ukraine’s “green” energy are part of Europe’s security strategy
Investments in Ukraine’s renewable energy are viewed by international partners not only as an economic opportunity but also as a strategic element of security. This was highlighted by energy and legal expert Mykhailo Pyrtko.
According to him, the development of solar and wind generation in Ukraine reduces the European Union’s dependence on fossil fuels while strengthening a common “energy shield” against Russian blackmail. “The recovery of Ukraine’s energy sector is directly linked to the security of the entire continent. The faster we integrate renewable generation into the European energy system, the stronger the EU’s resilience to external pressure will be,” Mykhailo Pyrtko emphasized.
The expert notes that the geopolitical factor has become one of the key drivers of international interest. European financial institutions are not only supporting Ukrainian projects with loans and grants but are also creating new instruments to mitigate risks. These include political risk insurance, long-term guarantees for private capital, and dedicated support funds for renewable generation.
“For the EU, investments in Ukraine’s renewable energy are part of a security strategy. They make it possible not only to rebuild the energy sector but also to reduce Russia’s influence on the European energy market. This is a matter of both economics and the stability of the entire continent,” Pyrtko underlined.
Thus, renewable energy is emerging as a key priority not only for Ukraine’s post-war recovery but also for Europe’s broader strategy of energy independence and climate security.
